Rheingrün Open Air takes place annually near the German city of Karlsruhe

Germany - The Rheingrün Open Air festival is a popular and ever-growing electro and techno event which takes place annually near the German city of Karlsruhe. With top international DJs on the bill and located at the picturesque Rappenwört Rhine Beach, the festival prides itself on delivering a high-class technical and infrastructure offering, ensuring that every visitor enjoys the best experience possible.

To meet the needs of 2024’s expanded event capacity, regular event service provider, MKM Event Show Technik, deployed a Coda Audio CiRAY system on the main stage for the first time.

On the main stage at Rheingrün Open Air, MKM Event Show Technik deployed main hangs totalling 16 x CiRAY at 90° and eight CiRAY at 120°, supplemented by two HOPS8 (high output point source) for out-fill, 18 x TiRAY (ultra-compact two-way line array) for near-fill. 21 x SCP (dual 18”) sensor-controlled subwoofers took care of the low end.

Eight ViRAY at 80° and four ViRAY at 120° acted as delays, with a further six x ViRAY at 80° and two SCP subs for monitoring. The system was powered by four Coda Audio Linus T-rack (12-channel rack) and two Linus M-Rack (compact four-channel rack).

Experienced system technician Daniel Vollrath is enthusiastic about the performance: “It’s unbelievable what CiRAY can do. It’s extremely compact and still delivers a huge output, leaving nothing to be desired! We were able to offer powerful and homogeneous coverage across the entire festival area. The maximum volume level of 99 dB was kept stable and the system still had plenty of headroom.”

The festival’s party area, Stage 2, was housed in a tent and also benefitted from a Coda Audio system. A short-notice reconfiguration of the stage layout meant that MKM had to re-configure its original plan, as Vollrath explains: “The stage was originally supposed to be at the front but had to be moved to the long side of the tent. It actually benefitted us because it meant we could safely do without a delay line. CODA’s high-performance G-Series proved to be the optimal choice for the tent shows.”

The system for Stage 2 comprised four G715-Pro and four G712-Pro (15” and 12” three-way multipurpose point source, respectively) with three SCP sensor controlled subwoofers and 10 x SCV-F (compact 18”) subwoofers. Two CUE-ONE (three-way high-output) stage monitors and two SCF-V subs took care of monitoring. The system was powered by a single Linus M-Rack and a single Linus-10C 4-channel system amplifier.

MKM Event Show Technik, run by Kai Hanstein, has been a Coda Audio user since 2019. “I’ve never regretted the decision to use this brand,” he says. “The performance is top-class and the systems are easily scalable, flexible and unbeatable in terms of handling. Their compact nature saves truck space and CODA’s after-sales service is excellent. All in all, it’s the perfect package.”
