Located in Green terrace, the heart of Sunderland's 'nightlife quarter', the Glass Spider boasts the largest terrace in the North-East and is operated by Wylam Developments, who also own Ttonic and Vision in Sunderland. Opening night at the Glass Spider featured live music, Vegas-style showgirls, an ice sculpture on the terrace and VIPs arriving by stretched Hummer.
Community loudspeakers have been used throughout the venue, chosen by Light & Sound Creations. The main dance-floor uses four CPL42-94, ceiling-mounted in landscape format, with two TD215S compact dual 15" subs. Bar areas and infill around the dance-floor use Community CPL27s and a CPL23 provides foldback for the DJ booth.
Each of the customer seating booths, which seat up to eight, uses Cloud 6 ceiling loudspeakers. Upstairs the bar and restaurant and the terrace all use Community's discreet 2-way 8" indoor/outdoor I/O8 loudspeakers.
Nik Cook of Light & Sound Creations comments: "This is the first installation of this size that we have completed using Community and the results are stunning. With A-list DJ and live-set guests like Boy George and Mark Morrison the Glass Spider is performing at the top end of the market and the quality of sound matches that standard." He continues: "Community UK have also been a great supplier. The initial system was to use a competitor's twin-18s on the dance-floor but we weren't happy with the sound. CUK's Stuart Cunningham personally drove the TD215Ss from Glasgow to Sunderland as time was so tight - and we opened with everything just right."
