Creative Technology, working through production company Reality Ltd, provided technical reinforcement for the live event and enabled MTV2 and Channel 4 to screen the recorded highlights from the following day. CT were contracted to provide all the display, recording and playback equipment for the event, along with all the video graphics elements. The main focus was a 7 x 5 panel Barco i8 LED screen, which was ground supported centre stage.
A component GVG PPU, with four Sony D30 cameras, handled the recording and playback elements. One camera was used for follow-on shots, a second camera, fitted with a standard lens, was deployed on wide shots in the bar and a third camera delivered long head shots of the celebrity presenters and award winners. A fourth camera channel was used in conjunction with a 12ft-reach Jimmy Jib, producing wide-angle shots of the bands.
For recording purposes Creative Technology provided four Sony DVW-A500 recorders for the Reality TX and a further four to capture ISOs for MTV2. Sony BVW-75 Analogue Betacams captured the SP recordings. Creative Technology also provided four Sony PVW-2650 machines to playback high quality noise-free pictures.
In addition, four 40" Pioneer plasma displays and two Sony 2950 monitors along with the venue’s own Plasma screens relayed the main event TX to the bar/press areas. After the event, Reality’s production manager Paul Corrick commented: "It was reassuring to have Creative Technology equipment and crew for this prestigious and high profile awards event - the LED screen was excellent, all the systems were installed and operated efficiently and every additional request was accommodated quickly and painlessly!"
