Gregory explained that he wanted to move the style of presentation forward: “In the past we had used old-fashioned video cube technology but I felt there needed to be a more imposing presence in the sound stage area, particularly for the eviction day on Friday. The LED display creates a real focal point.”
The 3 x 3 geometric has been designed as three separate columns, which are manually tracked. The centre column tracks upwards to reveal presenter, Davina McCall, as the flanking columns track outwards. Gregory explained that within the screen structure, his aim had been to create a ‘door’ through which Davina would appear. “It’s her door to the outside world,” he stated. Gregory went onto say that the Lighthouse screen delivers a powerful image - particularly on the big wide shots. “It’s everything I had imagined, and the Channel 4 executives are thrilled.”
CT Screenco’s Adrian Offord commented: “We were excited about using the new Lighthouse technology; given the viewing distance, the resolution of the16mm LED screen presented the ideal solution. It reads very well to camera.”
Lighthouse’s LVP1650 is a 16mm pixel pitch screen that fills the gap in the marketplace where a true outdoor screen is required, coupled with a high resolution image, at a cost effective price. It produces 5000 nits of brightness and its exceptional definition gives TV-quality images from a distance of 6 to 16m.
