UK - d&b audiotechnik has just released information about the latest addition to its Q-Series, the Q10 loudspeaker. The Q-Series applications stretch from single loudspeakers right through to large multiple cabinet line arrays all sharing the same fundamental requirements; precise control of directivity maintained to the lowest possible frequency. A single Q10 loudspeaker, with its wide horizontal dispersion pattern, is ideally suited for use in the near field. It may also be used for this application in larger Q-Series loudspeaker systems.

The Q-Series now consists of four loudspeaker types; the Q1, Q7 and Q-SUB launched last autumn and the new Q10 loudspeaker. The Q10, along with the Q1 and Q7, are passively crossed over two-way loudspeakers sharing the same physical size, shape, weight and driver compliment (a 1.3" exit HF and two 10" LF drivers), whilst the Q-SUB is a bass-reflex cabinet utilizing an 18" driver. The Q10 uses a rotatable constant directivity horn with a horizontal coverage angle of 110 degrees, considerably wider than the Q7's 75 degrees horizontal pattern; both loudspeakers have a 40 degrees vertical dispersion characteristic. The Q1, Q7 and Q10 achieve maximum output levels of 139, 138 and 137 dB SPL respectively. A range of fittings allow easy deployment for all appropriate applications, while the use of neodymium magnets in the driver assemblies significantly increases the ratio of weight against output power.

In support of the integrated system approach, the Q-Series exploits d&b audiotechnik electronics to provide all the required system set up parameters, amplifier power and remote control and monitoring. The latest firmware revisions for both the d&b D12 and E-PAC amplifiers include loudspeaker configurations or the new Q10 loudspeaker. These firmware versions are contained in the dbUpdate software for the D12 and E-PAC available from the website below.

The Q10 has been put through a test phase prior to launch with sightings at many of this summer's events. Q10s for example, were exceptionally well received at the recent Big Chill Eastnor Festival where they were put through their paces providing near field coverage with the Q-Series system in the club tent. Other venues throughout Europe have been involved in the testing phase. Q10s will also make their musical debut in London's West End this Autumn and look certain to broaden the acclaim the Q-Series has already achieved worldwide.
