UK - Dance4Life is an exciting new global initiative being delivered by SPW in the UK for the first time this year. As the youth arm of the World AIDS Campaign, it seeks to educate, empower and unite young people around the world to tackle HIV/AIDS. Dance4Life aims to provide an opportunity and platform for young people to become more actively involved in tackling HIV/AIDS.

Founded in 2004 in the Netherlands, the project has been highly successful in South Africa, the Netherlands and Indonesia, uniting thousands of young people around the world. The aim is for over 1 million young people from 24 countries to be united within their countries and internationally via live satellite links on World AIDS Day 2012. Through this they will be able to see their power as a united force for change.

The event aims to unite student representatives from 30 schools around the UK at one dance and music event in London, while also linking these individuals to young people around the world at other Dance4Life final events, in order to inspire young people to be agents for change and to inform others about HIV and AIDS.

On 25 November 2006 (the Saturday before World AIDS Day) student representatives from 30 schools in the UK will come to "The Big Event" in London alongside top DJs, dance performers and celebrities. Together these students will perform the Dance4Life drill in unison with young people at similar Dance4Life events in other countries via live satellite links. Following The Big Event to ensure sustainability the students will be linked with an SPW ex-volunteer peer educator to work on campaigning, awareness and fundraising.

The organisers are currently in the process of trying to find a venue for their Big Event on 25 November, and are looking for a London nightclub that would be willing to help. The organisers are happy for it to be an afternoon/early evening event, which would allow time for the venue to conduct its usual evening activities.

The organisers are specifically looking for a venue in London which can hold 1000+ young people (15 to 18 years old). They point out that there is no budget for the 'Big Event' and therefore need the venue to be a gift in kind.

If anyone feels they might be able to help, please call Camilla Smith on 02072220138.
