Organisers have also announced new additions to the seminar programme, which is covering various industry topics, from ground-breaking audio installations to safety and career advice, and practical training.
In 'More than a venue', Royal Albert Hall’s head of technical Ollie Jeffery and Steve Jones of d&b audiotechnik will reveal the story behind the venue’s multi-million pound audio installation and its effect on the RAH and its many visitors (see LSi April 2019).
In an exploratory session on sound for houses of worship, SFL project manager Patrick Smith will offer four proven ideas for better church audio, discussing what happens when contemporary music meets Gothic architecture and how immersive audio could change the face of worship.
Other audio sessions will discuss the future of theatre audio; how audio is affected by ambitious concert staging; and the realities of immersive audio. Meanwhile, Soulsound’s Darryn de la Soul will address the younger generation, offering insider know-how on how to craft a good CV and get work in the live events industry. This compliments the session led by Women in Live Music, who will share advice on how to survive and thrive in the live music industry.
Elsewhere, visitors are invited to the new audio demo lounges featuring L-Acoustics, RCF and Sound Technology. Also, the brand-new feature Stage to Studio will see emerging talent perform live while being recorded by a respected sound engineer.
Rigger Pete Kalopsidiotis of PTG Productions will look at a new sling which has been developed to stand the heat from pyrotechnics. This joins several production talks including Vectorworks’ introduction to GDTF and My Virtual Rig (MVR); LED structure safety; workplace practices; PLASA’s new lightning safety guidance; and various sessions on some of the latest regulation updates.
For lighting enthusiasts, ETC will deliver a series of Tech Talks, looking at ways to manage effects creation on its Hog and Eos consoles. Meanwhile, ChamSys is running introductory sessions on its MagicQ and QuickQ consoles and software.
Visitors to the showfloor will also be able to experience Blackout, a multi-media installation created by the Guildford School of Acting lighting tutor Mig Burgess.
