Denon's new DN-D4000.
UK - Hayden Laboratories has announced the new DN-D4000, double CD/MP3 player. The DN-D4000 has offers playback of CDR/RW discs and also has MP3 playback. MP3 is now an essential music source for cutting-edge DJs and installations alike, permeating all areas of entertainment and leisure from clubs and bars to corporate installations and mobile DJs, right through to general retail.

The DN-D4000’s features include VBR and CBR support, folder/file search and ID3-Tag display - showing artist, album and track title. It is also playlist compatible in m3u form. The machine’s CD function offers text display for artist and track names for discs containing CD Text information. Most popular CD-R/RW burning software now offers the ability to add CD Text.

The DN-D4000 also offers two seamless loops per CD drive - by using the start points (A-1 or A-2) two seamless loops may be easily created by jumping from one point to another. The two loops can be set anywhere within the same disc. Relay Playback sets the machine to ‘auto pilot’ and plays tracks from drive to drive automatically.

Another unique feature is the inclusion of two Hot Starts and Stutter Cue Points per drive. Hot Start playback allows the power of controlling two different cue points ‘on the fly’ and seamlessly. This makes it excellent for slam-mixing from one track to another and for ‘same track’ real time remixing. In Stutter mode, the same two CUE points are utilised for ‘cue point sampling.’

Momentary audio can be started instantly when either ‘A’ button is pressed and held down. If this is done repeatedly, a stutter sound of a vocal or beat is simply and easily achieved. The DN-D4000 includes memo functions, with a track memo of 300 tracks per drive, and allows for cue point, playback pitch, pitch range and the seamless loop A & B data to be stored in its memory. Also included is a disc memo of up to 10 discs per drive. This also allows MP3 discs to start up as quickly as a CD, without having to read the MP3 disc information.

Shock-proof memory is another key feature of the DN-D4000 - 10 seconds for an audio CD and 100 seconds for an MP3 file. Also appealing to DJ is the Brake effect mode, which causes the playing speed to come to a quick halt, simulating the Stop function on a DJ turntable. A Pitch Bend of +/- 18% provides momentary pitch change so as to fine tune beats whilst beat mixing, and Jog Bend allows for extreme playback speeds to be changed by using the inner jog wheel. The maximum range of change is -35% to +50%.
