La Banque, Milan.
Italy - One of Milan's most popular clubs is planning to expand its universe: this summer, the classic La Banque restaurant and nightclub will open a unique outdoor venue, La Banque Estiva, located just a few miles north of central Milan. This new venture by La Banque's owners, the Maiorana family company Progemir, is a contrast to the original venue, which inhabits wood panelled marbled premises in an old city bank: with the large restaurant and lounge bar on the first floor, the disco is downstairs in the old bank vault, and the whole venue is elegantly furnished with deep red curtains and fittings which attract a diverse crowd of all ages. Footballers, politicians, stars of TV and the nearby La Scala opera house can be found alongside fashion models and businessmen.

Franco Maiorana expects the same crowd to follow him to La Banque Estiva, or the 'summer bank', where the cuisine will be served poolside, and the club will be completely open-air. The location is within one of Milan's large sports centres, some distance from residential neighbourhoods, although ironically, the nearest house is inhabited by the city's council's noise regulations specialist! Audio Equipment srl is supplying JBL loudspeakers, which will be flown from specially-erected trusses, and a number of Denon's pro DJ CD players, which are the confirmed favourite of La Banque's roster of well-known DJs.

La Banque will take delivery of two new Denon DN-S5000 table-top CD players, one for the club and the other for the DJ station on the restaurant floor, where on occasion a dancefloor is set up among the marble columns. La Banque Estiva will take two DN-S3000s and one of the compact DN-S1000's out into the open-air, to be used by DJ Flash, Lello Mascalo, DJ Lucas and other La Banque regulars.

Denon is enjoying a surge of popularity in Italy, thanks to new distributor Audio Equipment srl, which has benefitted from the promotional activities of Francisco Rojos, a Latin American music DJ whose endorsement has helped push sales of the DN-S1000 to more than 200 units a month. "The DJ community tells us that no product can compete with the DN-S5000," says Audio Equipment's Marco Porro. "It seems that everyone was just waiting for something new to come along, and Denon's new players have given DJs a freer, more exciting sense of operation."
