With one of the screens located directly in the flight path of incoming air traffic at the King Shaka's International airport in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, safety, control and durability, were of prime importance for the project.
As well as a rigorous electrical and mechanical specification, Dube TradePort required full control over the screens. For this reason, commissioning of the system included a series of brightness tests covering all light condition permutations during the 24/7 use. To ensure all criteria are met, each Lighthouse LED screen is independently dimmable and fitted with automatic brightness controllers.
Supplied and maintained by South African-based system integrator System Solutions, part of the Gearhouse Group of companies, the Lighthouse's Impact 12 panels replace existing screens and display a variety of advertising content for this revolutionary business infrastructure.
Dube TradePort required a robust solution with high-end brand functionality, so the System Solutions team recommended the Impact 12 panels, which have an exceptionally high brightness at 6000 nits, superb contrast and simple panel design for ease of installation.
"As a premier brand, Lighthouse is able to offer the stringent specifications the customer asked for," said System Solutions' general manager, Roger Feldmann, "We have extensive experience with their 12mm rental version, DuoLED, through LEDVision (Pty) Ltd, the LED rental supplier of the Gearhouse Group.
"We strongly believe that Lighthouse's Impact 12 is the ideal product and pixel pitch for this project and specified a solution with an LCM-HDP controller, not only for its video processing power, but also because of its remote monitoring and management capabilities. The client is able to set and monitor the parameters on temperature, voltage and screen brightness."
The project was overseen by Systems Solutions design manager Stephen Woodroffe and brought to completion by project manager, Karen Blythe. LED Rental company LEDVision (Pty) Ltd handled the configuration, with final commissioning of the screens and specialist electrical and mechanical work undertaken by specialist contractors.
"Now that the installation is up and running, we will deliver the client's requirement of five years of fail-safe service," concludes Feldmann. "This is our most important sales tool and will show why the Lighthouse screens and System Solutions are the only companies that can deliver in South Africa."
