Newing was chosen at random out of 327 entries in the contest, which ran last month on Elation's Facebook page. He will receive round trip airfare to Los Angeles, three nights' hotel accommodations, meals and ground transportation in Los Angeles, plus enrollment in the Master Classes, 3-4 December 2011 at the University of Southern California's new Ronald Tutor Campus Center Grand Ballroom in Los Angeles.
As director of entertainment, media and promotions for Ala Carte Entertainment, Newing is required to stay current with modern lighting trends and equipment, especially since the company has been remodelling several of its locations, installing new sound and updating lighting in many of its nightclubs.
"I challenge myself to learn something new every day, and I hope to soak up knowledge of new products and techniques at the Master Classes that will help me in designing our new super-club in Chicago next year," Newing said. "Thank you Elation and Live Design for this fantastic opportunity. I hope to gain and share as much knowledge as possible from these classes with all my staff back here in Chi-town."
The main focus of this year's Live Design Master Classes is concert lighting and projection, and lighting designer Jeff Ravitz of Intensity Advisors, who is best known for his collaboration with Bruce Springsteen, will serve as creative consultant for the symposium. The list of event speakers includes Steve Cohen, Butch Allen, Patrick Dierson, Bob Bonniol, Jim Lenahan, Anne Militello, Gurn Kaninski, Arnold Serame, Tim LaValley and many others.
