Elixir the Musical hit home with its water theme
South Africa - A theatrical performance of song and dance infused with African emotion and humour, made Elixir the Musical an absolute delight. The show opened in Mamelodi Community Hall on 19 August, to a large audience who experienced musical theatre in their own community hall.

The official opening was at the Breytenbach Theatre in Sunnyside on the 26 August and formed part of Tshwane University of Technology's Hello Community Theatre Arts Festival, sponsored by City of Tshwane, National Arts Council, Breytenbach Theatre, Blond Productions, MJ Event Gear, Blackmotion, DWR Distribution, Production Projects and 93.6 Tshwane FM.

TUT's Breytenbach Theatre in-house lighting equipment was utilised for the performance and included nine Robe Robin 600LEDWash, two Robe ColorSpot 250, 22 Longman LED PARs, Philips Selecon Pacific Followspot, six Philips Selecon SPX Profiles. The lighting design and technical was supplied by Entertainment Technology Department's Lighting (the third year TUT students).Programming was on a grandMA2 on PC Command Wing.

Wandile Mgcodo, project manager of the Festival and technical manager of the Breytenbach Theatre was pleased with the project overall and the show. "The audience were kept amused with the talent on stage, including the great technical abilities our students portrayed during the Hello Community Theatre Arts Festival," he said.

Duncan Riley of DWR comments, "It was really fantastic, I enjoyed the show and it hit home with the water theme. Drought is a problem in South Africa and Elixir touched on real issues in our country and what people will go through in desperate situations. The performance was good. Considering the cast were not seasoned actors, they did exceptionally well. DWR is privileged to be part of this initiative."
