The Nightingale is a unique managed business owned by its members, reinvesting its profits into the business. Now 35 years old and in its fourth location, the venue has recently undergone a £3/4 million redevelopment, evolving into a 'style bar and nightclub', open seven days a week.
Set over three floors, The Nightingale has capacity for 2,000. With live PA on the ground floor, and another large dance club on the second floor, the first floor in the middle features the new B5 Bar and Restaurant, together with a piano lounge and café bar with swanky leather sofas, chunky tables and big leather stools. This area features strongly as an early evening pre-club bar. Offering live acoustic music, live comedy and the occasional DJ, the venue has a clean stylish ambience.
Playing quiet background music as an antidote to the club's other floors, the first floor has now been kitted out with EV's EViD compact full-range loudspeakers in white, a neat aesthetic complement to the venue décor. Six ceiling-mounted EViD 6.2 models are located around the stage area, providing a deceptive level of sound for their size. Dual woofers provide extended bass, greater power handling and output that is ideal for live performance. Two EViD 12:1 subwoofers are discreetly hidden, and the system is powered by an EV SP1800 amplifier. In the VIP area, four smaller EViD 4:2 speakers, also in white, are powered by a CP1200 amp.
Says Mark Broadhead of Matthews Electronics: "The EViDs offer just the right combination of audio power and quality with innovative cosmetic design; equally at home with background music replay and the live cabaret performances in the piano lounge, these speakers really look the part, which is important in a design-conscious environment like The Nightingale."
