UK - At Tate Britain on 4 December 2006, artist Tomma Abts was announced by Yoko Ono to be the winner of the Turner Prize 2006. To provide the ultimate setting for this leading event in the art calendar, Tate's accredited production supplier, Event, used its most recent stock of LED lighting technology for the first time. Event's latest kit provides maximum design flexibility and uses minimum power.

'The LED rig runs on a domestic power supply and is brighter than many conventional lights. Our clients have peace of mind as their events use minimum energy and the technology allows our designers to achieve even better effects', says Event's head of lighting operations, Roger Deane. "It also eradicates the need for bulky cabling which can be difficult to conceal. We can deploy the lighting quickly and efficiently without impacting on the architectural environment." In addition, the flexibility of Event's system allows the client and the designer to work more closely together to achieve the ultimate effect.

"Event's lighting system allowed me to have a much greater influence over the design", says Tate's event manager, Victoria Colin-Jones. "After the rig had been installed, I walked through the space with the designer to fine-tune the look. I was able to instantly alter the colour and effect of the lamps."

Event's lighting designer James O'Connell used a selection of SGM Palco 3s, Thomas PixelPars and PixelLines to create stunning effects. The energy-efficient equipment is aperfect solution for Event's 33 accredited, prestigious venues including galleries, museums and State buildings.

Event's Set & Staging department also provided a mirrorfinish circular stage, steps and lectern for the ceremony. The items are part of Event's growing furniture and staging collection which is also available for hire.
