The Netherlands – ETC is heading to the Netherlands for the biennial CUE exhibition on 15-17 January at Rotterdam Ahoy. The new ColorSource CYC luminaire, the recently launched Ion Xe lighting control console, and products from ETC’s rigging portfolio will be making their Benelux debut at the event, with the company also offering product demos and giveaways on stand 101.
ColorSource CYC will take centre stage on ETC’s booth at CUE. The purpose-built cyclorama light is bright, compact and affordable. It’s also the first ColorSource fixture to add a fifth colour to its LED array, incorporating indigo with the RGB-L mix to achieve rich, theatrical hues. The Czech manufacturer will run a dedicated demonstration facility – the Etive Room – to allow attendees to hear a selection of KV2 products, including the compact passive ESD 25 and active full-range EX 15 loudspeaker.

South Africa - The prestigious Vodacom CEO Awards took place at Vodaworld in Midrand and for the very first time, MGG were appointed to supply the full technical. With a modern vintage theme, lighting designer Francois van der Merwe created pomp and hype on the grandMA 2 full size, while audio engineer Fanie Pieterse ensured the theatrical performance was complimented with exceptional sound. Fanie ran the show on a DiGiCo SD10 and used his new DiGiCo 32-bit Stadius Mic Pre-Amp for the live sound aspects.
“It was a fantastic event,” said Francois. “The acts varied from theatre to ballet and from drama to rock. While we had a list of requirements to meet and worked closely with the producers and creative team, it was a lot of fun and the gig came out very well.”

USA - Ayrton received the LDI 2017 Award for the Most Creative Use of Light at last week’s LDI Show in Las Vegas.
The judges praised “Ayrton’s cool product presentation that physically re-engages the audience to show their products in a unique setting”. The light show was designed by top lighting designer Cory FitzGerald and programmed by Jason Baeri, and accepted on behalf of the company by Ayrton’s global sales manager, Michael Althaus.
Ayrton exhibited in a crystal dome play-zone that showcased all their latest products while visitors were invited to lounge in comfortable gaming chairs. Above them rose a pyramid composed of two opposing triangles of truss that carried bars of 30 alternating MagicPanel-FX and 20 IntelliPix-XT fixtures, flanked by 10 MagicBlade-FX; on the opposite sides were two triangular projection screens for showing off the gobo project

UK - Battersea Dogs & Cats Home’s annual Collars & Coats Gala Ball returned for its ninth year earlier this month, with Hawthorn on hand - or should that be paw - to deliver full technical production for the star-studded occasion. Taking place at Battersea Evolution, a Smart venue, the creative technical production expert provided lighting, sound, video and staging for the charity’s biggest fundraising event of the year.
Even with a guest list packed with some of biggest names of stage, screen and sport, it was Battersea’s four-legged friends that stole the spotlight at the Gala Ball. The company is launching a new video panel range, the Design Series. This system comprises four modular panels of different shapes - DS4 (square), DS4T (triangle), DS4QC (quarter circle) and DS4HC (rectangle) - that can be combined into almost any shape and size of video screens.

USA - BroadWeigh is set to meet with several of its product partners and end-users at LDI in Las Vegas to introduce them to the latest updates and additions to its product range.
One of the company’s latest developments is the BroadWeigh TwistLink – a smart piece of kit which allows a BroadWeigh 4.75 tonne shackle to be quickly connected to a 4.75 tonne or 3.25 tonne shackle without having to mess around with the pin, nut and Rclip. It has holes at 90 degrees to minimise potential torsion loading in the load pin and conforms to the European Machinery Directive.
This will be joined by the new Wind Speed Sensor foam insert which holds Wind Speed Sensors in both large and small BroadWeigh flight cases. The large case has undergone some changes so that accessories can now fit cleverly within the lid.

From 17-19 November, visitors to booth #2773 can demo the new fixture – a compact, affordable five-colour LED cyclorama light that specialises in smooth washes and rich colour – and see its optics in action on the booth’s cyc.

UK - The new owner of SWX will work with local and national promoters to bring more live music to the Bristol club.
Electric Group, which also runs Electric Brixton, completed a deal for SWX last month, recognising “the performance potential in its outstanding atmosphere, production and sightlines”.
With Ticketweb providing box office and marketing support, Electric Group will manage the SWX live diary from Brixton under head of music Mike Weller’s direction.
Weller has been working with the SWX team to further refine the venue’s live set-up, technically and commercially.

USA - Doughty Engineering’s new Space Saver Omega will make its US debut at this year’s LDI Show in Las Vegas. The original Space Saver was launched in the US at LDI last year and quickly became one of Doughty’s hit products.

UK - Plenty of exciting activities await visitors to the Institute of Acoustics conference, Reproduced Sound, even before it opens next Wednesday, 22 November, and closes at 6pm on Thursday, 24 November.
At 6.30pm on 21 November there is a coach trip to the Entertainment Engineering subject group at the University of Derby that will include demos of 3D audio. Immediately after the conference, in the nearby Crowne Plaza Hotel, Philip Newell will be hosting a workshop on creating the 1970s sound. On Friday morning, 25 November, there’ll be a visit to Green’s Mill - a working 19th century windmill and science centre once owned by physicist George Green (of Green Function fame).
