USA - The 2013 CMT Music Awards was staged at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee and featured a spectacular lighting design by Tom Kenny. The fan-voted awards show featured a rig which included 24 of Robe's newest moving light fixtures, the Pointe, along with a variety of Robe's other Robin series moving heads.

After a successful show with the new Pointe, just previously used on the MTV Upfront Presentation in New York, Kenny specified the multi-functional fixture for the CMT Music Awards.

This was the fifth year that Kenny has designed lighting for the CMT Music Awards, a live show, broadcast on CMT (Country Music Television) and attended by a live audience in a venue with a capacity of 15,000 people.

South Africa - Hip-hop artist, Snoop Dogg aka Snoop Lion, earlier this year played at two concerts in South Africa. At the Ellis Park Indoor Arena in Johannesburg on 19 May and at the Grand Arena at the GrandWest Casino in Cape Town on 21 May. In Cape Town, lighting designer for the event, Sean Caie, worked on what he describes as a solid platform - the grandMA2 light - to create a show which surpassed the requested technical rider.

Staged in the MediaCityUK Piazza, the series of events are planned around the summer's major sporting events, and recently featured the Women's European Football Championships. UK - Event production and rental company OneBigStar once again chose Roland Systems Group (RSG) for the Glastonbudget tribute festival with the entire audio solution managed by RSG products including mixing, splitting, dropboxes and monitors. The Roland M-480 and M-300 Digital Consoles, the S-1608 Stage Box and M-48 Personal Monitors all played a key role in the setup which catered for live bands and acoustic sets.

Taking place in Wymeswold, Leicestershire, the festival which has grown in size and popularity year on year, presents the best in tribute bands and local music with over 100 performances on four stages over the May Bank Holiday weekend. USA - The Audio Engineering Society (AES) recently wrapped its 50th International Conference, its first dedicated specifically to audio education. The conference took place 25-27 July, at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, where more than 140 educators and industry representatives met to exchange ideas and experiences.

Attendance far surpassed the organisers' initial expectations, with attendees travelling to Murfreesboro from 25 U.S. states and 12 countries, including Korea, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. The event also for the first time included a significant focus on live sound as a component of a pro audio education curriculum, a fact underscored by the event's keynote address delivered by Bob McCarthy, senior education consultant at Meyer Sound, who gave an informative and entertaining presentation on the history of the live sound indus

USA - Over the past five years, the Free Press Summer Festival (FPSF), staged at Eleanor Tinsley Park just west of downtown Houston, has quickly grown into one of Texas' most eagerly anticipated music festivals. This year notably marked the first time that the event completely sold out in advance, ultimately drawing nearly 100,000 concertgoers to enjoy 90 national and local artists performing on six stages over two days.

Houston's LD Systems once again served as the primary audio, video and lighting provider for FPSF 2013 and supplied production gear and services for the festival's four primary stages. This year, however, the company chose to deploy L-Acoustics K1 systems on the two largest stages, Mars and Saturn.

Spain - Drawing an immense following since its debut in September 2012, reality television singing competition The Voice or La Voz in Spain, has become a social phenomenon. To help accentuate the live performances, live drama and the jury of popular Spanish singers: Rosario Flores, David Bisbal, Malú and Melendi, Madrid-based full-service rental, sales and installation company Citylight installed a complete Martin MAC lighting rig.

Venues range from indoor arenas like the O2 in London and the LG at Birmingham's NEC though to outdoor festivals like the Tennant's Vital Festival in Belfast and Denmark's Smukkeste Festival at Skanderborg. In between are the more intimate spaces of the O2 Shepherds Bush Empire and the iconic Roundhouse in Camden Town. UK - Adding to the growing list of new exhibitors at PLASA this year is uTRAC, an online scheduler and workforce management software aimed at providers of short term labour onto projects in live events, security, hospitality and catering.

Born out of the event sector and launched to the market in January 2013, uTRAC is currently working with companies Aikens Promotions and Knight Rigging Services. The software has become integral to ensuring events runs smoothly, allowing clients to stay on top of the essential back office administration involved with assigning staff to jobs, greatly reducing errors and hassle. uTRAC streamlines all the financial and administrative functions including wages reports, client invoices, and business reporting.

UK - Miltec will be showing the production versions of their Mini-Map miniature LED screen. The Mini-Map is a miniature LED screen measuring 155mm x 155mm with 36 pixels and is controlled via DMX512. Two versions are available, one for touring and one for installation.

The touring version has a steel case, PowerCon in and out, 5-pin XLR in and out and an M10 mounting point. Optional extras include a hinged mounting bracket and a flush mounting adaptor for building into flat sets. The idea behind the product is to allow small and medium sized companies to produce effective pixel effects on a budget and using standard cabling.

Other pixelmap products on display (Stand F10) will include the 3D-Tube, the successful Batten2 LED batten and the EPW2 and EPW 3 moving heads, recently seen at Glastonbury.

Australia - As the dust settles on ENTECH 2013, the show has proven to have exceeded expectations and delivered the largest attendance in ENTECH's history.

Figures show that there was a total of unique 4,705 visitors to ENTECH 2013 and an all over attendance of 5,469 including revisits.

ENTECH has delivered a 17% increase on interstate visitors, an overall 5% increase on the previous show with 7% increase of visitors coming back for second look during the three days.

ENTECH event manager Stephen Dallimore said, "We are delighted to see the industry turn out in its thousands over the three days and not only see all the new technology on display, attend seminars and networking functions but really embrace the ENTECH/SMPTE collocation, which has been a huge success with exhibitors of both shows seeing the positive impact on visitor numbers again."

UK - Miltec will be showing the production versions of their British made Blakite speaker range (Stand number F10).

The new range was designed by Miltec and is manufactured in the UK using custom drivers supplied by Fane. All seven models are made from birch ply and finished in high quality black or white paint.

The range consists of three full range speakers and four subs. The three tops have 8", 10" and 12" drivers with 1.7" compression drivers. The sound is very clean and detailed, making them suitable for conference and theatre as well as schools, live music and clubs. Features include a 35 degree wedge angle, optional rubber feet, flying points, PowerDrive bracket mounting points and a pole socket.

The subs are all front loaded and available in 12",15", 2x 15" and 2x 18" formats. The sound is warm and deep but very controlled. The

UK - For the eighth consecutive year, west London based Entec Lighting supplied lighting equipment and design services for one of the UK's most popular boutique music and arts festivals - Larmer Tree - set in the Larmer Tree Park Gardens near Salisbury on the Wiltshire / Dorset borders.

In addition to this, Entec created a bespoke light sculpture - Fish - as the centrepiece of a selection of curated art works on display in the forested areas of the site. Fish was in located in The Pond and featured a three dimensional work made from Chinese metal fish each individually outlined with LED strips and hung off curved trussing sections.

Illuminating these general art display areas so the works can be enjoyed after dark is a major part of the Festival's lighting brief.

USA - PLASA Focus: Austin 2013 looks set to be bigger and better than ever with over 50 exhibitors confirmed and organizers PLASA Events reporting a 25% increase in visitor registrations over the debut PLASA Focus: Austin event, of February 2012. This year's show is taking place at a new venue, the Palmer Events Center, just 20 minutes from Austin Airport, on 10-11 September, 2013.

USA - Following the introduction of their successful HOG4 range of lighting consoles at LDI 2012, High End Systems has chosen the PLASA Focus trade show, held in Austin Texas, to debut Version 2.0 of the Hog software. Along with the new software, High End will also be showing the Solawash 19 and Solawash 37 products representing the newest automated fixture offering.

Version 2.0 software represents a major leap forward in the Hog 4 line of products with a whole host of new features such as media integration with CITP, fixture gobo and colour thumbnails, DMX test, ArtNet merge, and FX engine enhancements.
