Mark Timms with Giles Orford, marketing director at Focusrite
UK - Leading manufacturer Focusrite has presented an award to a Buckinghamshire New University BA (Hons) Audio and Music Production graduate for the quality of his work.

Mark Timms, 22, won the Focusrite Award for Best Music Production Recording 2016 and received it at his graduation ceremony at the Wycombe Swan theatre in High Wycombe.

The ambitious graduate was recognised for his dissertation work, based around binaural recording, a type of sound recording, and how it could be used to enhance horror films.

He said, "I built my own binaural recording head at home and spent a lot of my time in the studio experimenting and creating effects, then testing it to see if people enjoyed or were scared by this different way of recording."

Speaking about his career after graduating, Mark said: "I am currently working for the BBC as a boom operator on their medical drama Doctors.

"Throughout my time at university I sought out work recording on location for various videos and projects, including companies like Sennheiser and the Music Producer's Guild."

Gerard Gormley, lecturer in Audio & Music Production, said, "Mark has demonstrated unwavering passion in audio production all the way through his degree and he is poised to have a very successful career within the industry."

Giles Orford, marketing director at Focusrite, said, "Focusrite is very proud of our long time association with Bucks New University and the Focusrite Award for Best Production.

"The calibre of the students gets higher every year. Indeed, this year, Mark's production will go on to be a commercial release; testament to his exceptional talent as an engineer, producer and mixer.

"We trust that this year's prize, a Clarett 4Pre Thunderbolt Audio Interface, will help to take Mark's productions to the next level."
