UK - freelanceColony, the UK's first dedicated on-line resource for the AV industry, has officially gone live. Brainchild of industry veteran Antony Drew, the new website allows freelance members to record their specialities, daily or hourly rates and availability online. Business users can then subscribe to search for freelancers from the comprehensive members' database.

Freelancer profiles can be viewed by speciality, day rate, and ability while the site'sup-to-date availability feature allows resources to be optimised, keeping the project management process flowing freely. The web and SMS text-based service allows businesses to issue a text alert when they require support to which interested freelancers can respond direct, In return, FreelanceColony members can also use the Internet Browser or SMS text to keep their personal calendar up to date.

As freelanceColony is accessible via any web browser, business users can also opt for the crew scheduling package that organises crew and vehicles, and even produces hourly schedules for individual freelancers or vehicles via a PDF. Regular updates to events are available either by text or email or both, and can be accessed at any time of day or night for a single annual fee.

"Having worked for one of the largest audio visual rental companies in the UK for12 years before becoming a freelance AV technician, I'm well aware of the problems faced by both sides of the industry," explains freelanceColony's managing director, Antony Drew. "That's precisely why we set up freelanceColony - to put freelancers and business users in direct contact with each other and to take the hard work out of the process."

One of the first business users to sign up for service is Cuemedia Limited, whose managing director Chris Perkins is equally enthusiastic about the benefits of freelanceColony membership: "In the past we sometimes struggled to locate the right crew for the job and wasted hours chasing freelancers who were already booked up. freelanceColony has taken the hassle out of the whole process with such a simple solution. I'm amazed no-one has ever thought of it before."
