This is a new qualification which is nationally endorsed. It comprises entertainment technology management units including advanced OH&S and team leadership, along with electives in audio, lighting, vision and staging. It is conducted at Rydalmere college, with practicals at various venues across Sydney. The course includes internships and work placements during 2005.
The Advanced Diploma is a full time course, with an accelerated program delivery. The pre-requisite is normally completion of the leaving exam in Year 12, however there are entry exemptions for exceptionally motivated students.
The fully funded scholarship pays course fees and any college incidentals, leaving the successful student to fund only living costs in 2005. The part funded scholarship is worth $4,700 with the balance of $6,600 to be paid by the student. The full cost of the Advanced Diploma is $11,300 for the year.
Juliusmedia funds the full time scholarship from the proceeds from a contract with the federal Dept of Education, Science and Training to supply training to indigenous youth across Australia in 2004 at the Croc Festival. This scholarship is open to all, and is not limited to indigenous Australians. The part funded scholarship is provided by Lots of Watts, a production supplier in Sydney, which has an ongoing commitment to training and crew development.
The college is keen to hear from people who wish to enter the industry and encourages people of both genders and from all backgrounds to apply. Because of the nature of the career outcomes from this course, applicants need average mobility and to be reasonably fit and healthy.
These scholarships are designed to encourage people who could not otherwise afford to undertake the Advanced Diploma. On completion, the Advanced Diploma comprises 25 units of competency, which can be combined in the future with additional units to achieve further Advanced Diploma's in either stage management, or venue and event management.
To apply applicants should write at least 500 words about who they are and include age, study history, interests, and social background. Applicants should also explain how the course would benefit them, and where they feel it may take them. Applicants should also indicate how they feel they can meet their own travel and living expenses whilst in Sydney on the course.
Apply by email only to the address below, no later than 31 January 2005. The successful students will be contacted in the first week of February, and must be available to start in Sydney on 21 February.
