James R. Bonfiglio, Furman's president and CEO, said: "We're fortunate to have a senior engineer as talented and experienced as Sandy. With his experience in microprocessors and DSP system design, Furman Sound is on the threshold of dramatic and radical product design and development."
Bumgarner was born in Chicago and lives in the San Francisco Bay Area. He holds a degree in astronomy from San Diego State University, completed his graduate work at New Mexico State University, and served in the Military from 1959 to 1963. Fast aircraft and astronomical research remain Sandy's passions. He teaches an evening course in astronomy at a community college, is part of a racing aircraft's support crew, and is a member of IOTA, the International Occultation Timing Association. In his spare time, he is building a highly specialized digital video camera for astronomical and other scientific observations. This FireWire camera couples directly to a Mac and is capable of visual and near infrared full resolution real-time video as well as still images with exposures of 1/3,000 of a second.
