The initiative, known as Gateway Professional Development Training (GPDT), is a unique collaboration between GPDT, Phoenix Sound Studios and The Integrated Systems Organization. Based at Phoenix Sound in Wembley, GPDT aims to create a pioneering model of industry training that will be an example worldwide.
The organizations and the personalities involved all have close links with manufacturers, record companies, industry organizations and the media, ensuring an unprecedented level of industry support for the project. All three organizations are recognized as groundbreaking institutions in the recording industry and are part of the history of this industry - and the music industry as a whole, says Ward.
During 2004, the project will provide an International Training of Trainers Programme for the sound and music industry, courses for non-operational staff (studio administration and record company), a studio service and maintenance course, training for the Careers Advisory Services and much-needed training and consultation for educators and community music organizations. The International Training of Trainers Programme will be available to all sectors of the sound, music and entertainment technology industry including audio post-production, live sound, theatre sound, touring and rigging personnel.
Many of the courses have been specifically designed for APRS and APPS personnel. The project is headed by Ward, founder of Gateway and director of Education and Training for the Association of Professional Recording Services (APRS), and Simon van Zwanenberg, chair of the APRS Education and Training Committee, APRS director, and owner of The Integrated Solutions Organization. Van Zwanenberg's company already provides pro audio training by offering custom on-site, operational, application and product training packages worldwide.
Over the last few years Ward has worked closely with awarding body Edexcel to develop Professional Development Qualifications for the industry. Peter Fielder, director of Phoenix Sound, and Ward both sit on the Board of the APRS and other music industry organizations. Dave Harries, chair of the APRS Accreditation Board, is also part of the team, bringing his lifelong knowledge of the industry and consultation expertise to the project. All four have previously worked together to promote awareness of educational and training needs in the industry, and were instrumental in the setting up of the APRS Education and Training Initiative.
Both van Zwanenberg and Ward will be available on the APRS stand at the Sounds Expo exhibition to discuss this project and APRS Education and Training issues.
