UK - Lighting manufacturer GDS won an award at the recent Bristol Post's Green Capital Awards, held at the city's Marriot hotel. In 2015 Bristol became the first UK city to be awarded the status of European Green Capital. This annual award, an initiative of the European Commission, is designed to promote and reward the efforts of cities to improve the environment. The city won the award by achieving high environmental standards, driving ambitious goals for sustainable development and acting as an inspirational role model to other cities.

In recognition of Bristol's achievement, the Post newspaper, with the help of main sponsor Velopost, scoured the city to find the people and organisations who make an exceptional contribution to the green agenda. After considering a host of nominations, each of the eleven categories was narrowed down to three nominees, with GDS triumphant in the Green Product category for ArcLamp, the latest addition to what the judges described as its 'game-changing' ArcSystem range.

Matt Lloyd, managing director of GDS collected the award on behalf of the company and paid tribute to all the night's nominees. "To be recognised in our own city alongside the innovators and pioneers who have been nominated for these awards is fantastic. Supporting the ambitions of those who seek to promote environmental sustainability lies at the heart of the innovation and development of GDS products like ArcSystem.

"These products are developed and created in Bristol before finding their way into a wide diversity of applications all over the world and we are pleased that in a year when the city is highlighted for its commitment to the environment, we have received this valuable recognition. It's worth remembering that one of the earliest appearances of ArcSystem was at Bristol Old Vic Theatre. It was an installation that probably first signalled the range's game-changing credentials to the wider world and whilst it has won national and international awards, this award for ArcLamp on our home turf feels pretty special."
