Held on 16 June at the University of Johannesburg, the Youth Day Commemoration attracted over 1,500 attendees and included performances by the University's choir, along with several guest speakers. Gearshack erected a sound system consisting of 12 D.A.S. Audio Aero CA-28A self-powered, two-way line arrays. Stacked six modules per side atop three double 18-inch bass bins, the combination of twelve Aero CA-28As and six subwoofers provided a compelling sound that provided a high level of speech intelligibility and the most musical reproduction of the choirs' voices.
Shifting gears to something a bit more upbeat, the Gearshack crew also provided live sound for the 2009 South African Music Conference's pre-party. Held on 28 June at the Jack Buddha night club in Pretoria. Once again, the D.A.S. Audio Aero CA-28As were the go-to loudspeakers. Eight CA-28As, stacked four per side atop two double 18-inch bass bins, provided the pulse pounding adrenalin that kept revellers going strong 'till the wee hours.
"We've been positively thrilled with the performance of our Aero CA-28As," said Martin Smith, director of Gearshack Event Services. "The club's capacity is actually about 300 people, but we had closer to 500 that evening, so a Bedouin marquee was erected just outside the club to accommodate the overflow. Everybody in attendance, including the DJs, were thrilled with the clarity and power of the mid-highs from the D.A.S. line arrays."
