The sit-down dinner was attended by 1,500 guests who were entertained by a host of performers on the main stage as well as the London Community Gospel Choir which played on a separate stage. Skan provided two Midas Heritage desks for the main stage to facilitate changeover between bands, and sound reinforcement was delivered by a Turbosound Floodlight system. Other main stage performers, including racing driver Eddie Jordan's band V10 who entertained the guests while they quaffed Mumm Champagne and bid for top prizes including the chance to dive two miles to the wreck of the Titanic.
Another major summer event for Skan is the Glastonbury festival, where they have provided a system for 'The Other Stage' for the past decade. This year's festival marked the debut of Skan's new Turbosound TFM450 bi-amped 2-way monitors. "With 11 bands per day on all three days of the festival, the new speakers had a good workout," says Skan's Chris Fitch, who had an extremely busy few days at Glastonbury, exercising his Stage Management skills too. Chris deputised for Dick Tee, the Production Manager on the 'Pyramid' and 'The Other Stage', whilst being appointed area and Stage Manager for the later.
The company's Turbosound Floodlight system was powered by Lab Gruppen amplifiers with two Heritage 2000s as front-of-house consoles, chosen for their simple layout and high quality audio, making them as suitable for headline acts as well as support bands. All microphones were Shure hardwired models, with three complete sets of 50 mics from the SM58 to the KSM44 provided to cater for all eventualities. This was the first time that Chris specified just one microphone brand for the festival and validates his decision by stating: "I'm really pleased I decided to use only Shure because the predictable gain ensured consistency which is particularly useful onshows with live broadcast elements."
