Phil Harding with last year's students
UK - The Gus Dudgeon Foundation and JAMES have confirmed that their Post Graduate Summer Course will take place on 15-21 July at the Gus Dudgeon MCI Studio Suite based at The Atrium Campus of Glamorgan University in Cardiff.

Tutored by music producer Phil Harding, the course will take ninetop-graduating students from JAMES accredited music technology and production courses for a week's experience recording on both analogue and digital systems.

Funding for this opportunity has been met by the Foundation and JAMES sponsors that have signed up to the 'Adopt a Student' scheme launched earlier this year.

Responsible for major hits with Kylie Minogue, Rick Astley, East 17 and Boyzone, Harding comments, "It was a great honour for me last July to lead this course in its inaugural year and to be able to take the course into its second year is brilliant! I learned my trade as an assistant engineer, or tape-jockey as Gus used to call us, during the mid 1970s at the Marquee Studios, London where Gus Dudgeon was a regular user of the MCI J500-series desk. Gus' version of that desk now proudly takes centre stage in the Gus Dudgeon control room at Glamorgan University."

Upon successfully completing the course each student will earn 10 credits valued at Masters level. They will also receive a GDF / JAMES certificate signed by Phil Harding confirming their achievement.

Successful students for this year's course are - David Kuratsu from Anglia Ruskin University, Ifan Jones from Glamorgan University, Bartosz Piekarski from Buckinghamshire New University, Nick Violet from Northbrook College, Dijon Wall from Leeds Metropolitan University, Ross Watson from University of Abertay, Adib Mehrabi from University of West England, Jonathan Sagis from LIPA and John Campbell from Coventry University.

The recording artist and songwriter chosen by this year's A&R panel is Tereza, a graduate of the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance; the first performance-based institution to achieve JAMES accreditation.

2012 'Adopt a Student' sponsors so far include Sonic Distribution, Unity Audio, The Simkins Partnership, Focusrite & PMI Audio.

Sonic Distribution Marketing Director Jeremy Lumsden comments, "We are delighted to be supporting JAMES, The Gus Dudgeon Foundation and the UK's top graduating audio engineering students with this inspiring education initiative. Whilst donating numerous pieces of sE and Rupert Neve Designs equipment for the course, we are also giving an sE microphone of their choice or an sE Munro Egg Monitoring System to the 'Student of the Week'."

Kevin Walker from Unity Audio adds, "Unity Audio strives for audio excellence with the products we represent and manufacture, and it's a perfect association as the GDF represents the cream of up and coming UK engineering/production talent. For the week of the course, we'll be supplying The Boulder 3 way monitors, Telefunken Elam 251, Cartec Pre-Q5 500 series pre-amp and FE-Q5 500 series EQ."
