An abundance of new products on the Harman Group stand: from BSS comes Soundweb London, a CobraNet DSP matrix operating at 48 or 96kHz, with latency down to 1.333 millisecs. Configurable in/out channels, improved DSP efficiency (up to twice the ability of the old green Soundweb, thanks to improved algorithms) and plug-and-play TCP, DHCP and Auto IP. The software also allows integration with Crown PIP modules so you can address, monitor and control individual Crown amplifiers.

AKG presented the WMS 400 - a new wireless mic unit in a 1U package. It's fully compatible with the 4000 series but comes at a lower price point; features include the smallest belt pack in its class, and eight-hour operation from two AA batteries (re-charger unit available). No programming is done on the belt pack, just the rack unit; the only real compromise is the fixed mic heads (no interchangeable capsules) so you need to choose carefully.

From JBL comes the SRX700 series, a range of portable PA speaker cabinets based on VerTec system components. The combination of neodymium magnets and alloy chassis makes these cabinets light for their size, yet capable of delivering high power. The PD5000 installation series now includes 10 models, the largest of which features a horn-loaded low end for higher directivity - not something you find everyday with install cabinets. The company also added a couple of in-wall speakers to its Control Contractor Line.

Though launched at Frankfurt, this was the first UK outing for Crown's new I-Tech amp: the I-T8000 is an 8kW amp with a claimed 90% efficiency, low signal-to-noise ratio, universal power supply, and integrated DSP. The I-T8000 DSP also monitors and logs load and operation parameters, meaning that you can view use and abuse reports following sub-hire of the device.

A neat, compact, four-bus mixing console, the GB4 from Soundcraft takes many features from the MH Series, sporting a GB30 mic-pre on every input and GB30 EQ derived directly from the MH4; it's a dual mode desk (FOH or monitors) thanks to a single button switch that takes any of the first four Aux masters and swaps with respectively numbered Group faders. Available in 12, 16, 24, 32 and 40 formats, the desk also features two full feature stereo channels, two stereo returns, four sub and four mute groups, and direct outs on every channel. Also new from Soundcraft, the Gig Rack 1000SX is a small, portable, self-powered mixer amp with built-in effects and dual graphics.
