Based on the hit movie starring Whoopi Goldberg and Maggie Smith, Sister Act tells the story of Deloris Van Cartier, a disco diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a murder. Under protective custody she is hidden in the one place she won't be found - a convent. Disguised as a nun and under the suspicious watch of Mother Superior, Deloris helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own.
Directed and choreographed by Craig Revel Horwood, the production has already received rave reviews following opening performances at Curve in Leicester, including a five star write up from The Stage. The tour will visit 41 venues before it closes in Inverness on 5 August 2017.
Lighting designer Richard G. Jones said, "The whole Sister Act lighting team were really blown away by the facilities at Hawthorn making for a very easy prep period. The quality of equipment is excellent and the care of all the staff enabled them to provide everything required during prep really efficiently.
"Mark [Burnett] and the team have been exceptional, sourcing the exact equipment that we required to make this show work with its very demanding schedule. The show has to go in and open on a Monday so it was very important that the equipment is reliable. The aftercare and support shown by the team is excellent; thank you to all at Hawthorn."
Mark Burnett, business development manager at Hawthorn, added, "We're thrilled to have been chosen to supply lighting equipment for the UK tour of Sister Act. Our reputation in the touring theatre sector continues to grow and we've invested heavily into our hire stock to support this. It's fabulous to see the new equipment out on the road, supporting such an amazing production."
