Liddle specified a ground based rigging system specifically to offer maximum flexibility to cope with the differing sizes and heights of the 18 venues. The modular system specified is quick to install and very easy adapt to make the most of the tight get in times.
Lighting included the Clay Paky Alpha Spot 1200 along with Alpha Spot wash lights and Thomas LED fixtures.
Liddle's video clips were projected onto two of Hawthorn's stretch Impact Screens, offering a variation from the traditional rectangular projection screens, and more importantly, greater flexibility when moving from venue to venue. The video was controlled by Radical Lighting's NG1 media server, mimicking the lighting effects in some places and in others leading the overall stage effect.
Hawthorn's NG system is the first to utilise Radical Lighting's new NG2 software. Each NG module utilises a different display effect and can be used either as a stand-alone program or can "click and fit" with one another as used here. NG1 deals with the video effects and NG2 with the mesmerising colour palette cycling, more NG modules are planned for the future.
Liddle requested to use the NG2 effects specifically and found it really easy to work with, producing stunning effects in seconds. "Being able to create changing media for projection quickly from jpeg images alone was a huge advantage with no pre-production time available for the tour," says Liddle.
The tour goes to America, before returning to the UK in July.
