PLASA encourages everybody to join the collective effort to amplify the industry’s voice
UK - PLASA’s new campaign #WeMakeEvents has garnered a 'huge response' from the industry.
The campaign was launched last week in a bid to raise awareness of the negative impact the COVID-19 crisis on the live events industry.
A cornerstone of the initiative, the #WeMakeEvents video has so far amassed 20,000 views and 3,000 shares.
PLASA says that 1,000 industry professionals have signed their support for the campaign via its webpage, and key industry organisations and brands have also endorsed it.
On the eve of the 50th anniversary of the Glastonbury Festival - cancelled this year due to COVID-19 - PLASA MD Peter Heath was promoting #WeMakeEvents and raising awareness of the industry’s plight via TV and radio appearances.
On Thursday, Heath spoke on talkRADIO (2:30 segment, from 17:00 minutes), and on Friday, he appeared on the World Business Report programme (from 21:00 minutes) on the BBC World Service as well as the digital TV channel, Bristol TV.
During these appearances, he explained: “Very few companies have got any work left for this year and are running out of cash rapidly. By the time the furlough scheme ends, social distancing measures may have relaxed, but not to the point where venues and events can operate properly.”
Key messages throughout the interviews are promoting the depth and breadth of the supply chain to the events industry, the impact if no further financial support is given, and a call to government to recognise that importance of the sector, both economically and culturally.
PLASA has encouraged everybody to join the collective effort to amplify the industry’s voice by sharing the #WeMakeEvents video as well as getting involved with other initiative’s like Light It In Red and Let The Music Play. UK-based professionals can write to their local MP using letter templates found here
