Lighting designer Ken Billington speaks at Lightpower's Open Days 2006 event.
Germany - For the fifth time, Lightpower GmbHm of Paderborn has successfully staged its 'Open Days' - what it calls "the German 'trend and further-training' forum for the lighting industry". More than 1,200 lighting professionals were invited to attend the Show at Heinz Nixdorf Forum, Paderborn, between 15-16 May to visit the high profile seminars and the product exhibition. Also, on day one, more than 800 visitors came together to party at the Capitol music theatre, enjoying the music of a first-class live band.

Established in 1994, the Open Days take place every third year and have become a leading German forum for lighting professionals from all disciplines. Lightpower says it "always aims to talk and listen to the users, whether they are convinced by the products distributed by Lightpower or critical about them. The only important thing - they had to be professionals and authentic."

To provide first-class seminars and product trainings, Lightpower has always worked closely with teachers and speakers with the best professional references. This year, the foucs was on how the world of lighting is developing; beside luminaires, effects and automated lights, what will be the impact of LEDs, media servers, video and digital lightingΩ; above all, what do leading lighting designers think about these topicsΩ

Seminars were held by prominent lighting designers such as Ken Billington (Broadway), Max Keller (German Theatre), Prof. Andreas Schulz (Architectural Lighting) and Stefan Aue (concert touring). These seminars took place at the 500-seat auditorium of the Heinz Nixdorf Forum and were translated simultaneously on independent headphones. In addition, a series of smaller technically-focused seminars were also held on specialized subjects including LED technology, stage technologies and colour and correction filters, which were also well attended.

The exhibition area was 30% bigger than at the 2003 event. Visitors had the chance to see the world premiere of Robert Juliat's powerful new followspot, Lancelot (equipped with a 4,000W HTI lamp) and Brother, Brother & Sons' brand new LED cyclorama EvenLED among many other high quality products from among the 17 brands represented exclusively by Lightpower in Germany.
