Ziwa Corporation, a design/build construction company in Brownsville, Texas, constructed the Hynes Centre. Ziwa project development manager Scott Shull contacted the Oak Ridge Boys to discuss their audio needs. FOH engineer Marko Hunt recommended Alcons line arrays and Shull retained integrator, Third Street R&D, of Hollister, Missouri, to design and install an Alcons system for the venue.
Greg Carttar, Third Street R&D's owner, used nine Alcons LR7/90 Micro Line-Array modules per side supplemented by four BF302 mkll double 15" subwoofers under the stage. The line arrays are mirror-imaged with the ribbons on the outside for beneficial side-wall reflections and the arrays are aimed downwards slightly to minimize rear-wall echoes. Two Alcons Sentinel 10 Amplified Loudspeaker Controllers provide a total of 20 kilowatts of power along with DSP presets for the loudspeakers.
Third Street R&D completed the installation on time and Carttar noted that commissioning went well. "In my experience," he said. "You don't need to mess with an Alcons system." Shull was also pleased with the installation. "I know when I've done my job right", he said. "I get to sit down and enjoy the show!"
