USA - Washington Pro Systems recently installed two Iconyx IC16 Digitally Steerable Array Systems in the premier conference auditorium of a major government agency. "We're not allowed to tell you which agency," says Greg Lukens of Washington Pro. "However, I can report that they were very impressed with the improvements we were able to bring to this 400 seat auditorium. The previous system had problems with both sound quality and gain before feedback. We resolved both issues with a Midas console, a Dolby Lake signal processor, and the Iconyx arrays from Renkus-Heinz.

"This installation is one of those we dream of, where the customer wanted and paid for close attention to every system detail. When Brian Grant and I brought our client into the auditorium to hear the new system for the first time, it sounded so natural that she told us 'I can hear everything very clearly. But is the sound system on?'"

Lukens, who is a Grammy-winning recording engineer in addition to being one of the mid-Atlantic region's most experienced systems integrators, collaborated with engineer Mike Ross on the design of the sound system. He reports that the process of tuning the Iconyx arrays was "pleasantly simple."

"I am used to being a lot more aggressive with EQ filters in order to get a system to sound as though it's not even on," he says. "The coverage of the Iconyx arrays was extremely even, which is one of the critical factors in obtaining this level of performance. The customer had also opted for acoustical treatment in the auditorium. With that and the Iconyx arrays, we were able to get great sound quality at every seat."
