Illuminate Design hasworked with the Thames Festival Trust for the past eight years, helping to deliver a variety of events, predominantly the annual Mayor's Thames Festival in London.
This year, Jonathan Bartlett, production manager for the Trust contracted Illuminate Design to provide a complete service for the Fire Garden by Carabosse at the Battersea Power Station. The project brief included Site management, PA, and lighting the famous chimneys.
To tackle the task, Robin Shephard-Blandy, director for Illuminate Design chose the new SGM G-Spot. Robin said, "The G-spot was a perfect solution for this job, because of the site layout we needed to be alongside the river meaning we required a powerful light source to throw the distance. It was also important not to be limited with colour to best light the chimneys to enhance the flames within the site and on the building. One of the main factors in choosing the G-Spot was the IP rating meaning we were able to avoid housing fixtures in domes."
SGM P-5s were also used to light Battersea's cranes giving an ethereal backdrop against the river Thames.
Following the event Adrian Evans, festival director said, "The lighting scheme you provided for the cranes and chimneys of Battersea Power Station was excellent - you responded both to a tight brief and a tighter budget with flair and excellence. Many of my VIP colleagues commented on the lighting. We will certainly want to work with Illuminate Design again."
