Lighting designer Malgosia Rozycka put together a complementary plan to light the 500-year-old church using a mix of warm and cold tones with the aim to bring out the different architectural features of the building. Ben Payne from Illuminate Design took Malgosia's design concepts for the festival and worked them into a scheme that was achievable for the week long period of the festival.
As one of the festival's key points was sustainability and energy efficiency, Payne chose 16 RGBW led fixtures as the main form of lighting - with a number of small GU10 and LED Tape fixtures to highlight the various building features. The total running power for the whole lighting project was no more than 75 watts.
The festival ran from 11-15 February and the church was lit between the hours of 5pm - 11pm. It was heavily featured in both local and regional press and had favouirable reviews for the stylish architecturally enhancing design.
The project had particular significance to Payne as the building was his family's church for many years and bought him back into contact with it after a number of years away from Cambridge.
Ben Payne commented, "It was great to work with Malgosia and the E-luminate festival team to light up such a historic and important building in Cambridge. We were very pleased with the outcome and hope that this initial scheme could lead to both this church and other buildings in this fine city being lit in a more permanent manner."
