Belgium - The Royal Conservatory of Antwerp has upgraded its lighting infrastructure with a Unity solution from LSC Control Systems, drawing on the experience of its partner facility – and one of Europe’s leading performing arts venues – De Singel.

Undertaking a full renovation of its Zwarte Zaal (Black Hall) – including new grid, cabling, patch racks, audio, data, video and lighting – led by main construction contractor Co-Ps, the Royal Conservatory insisted on quality, reliability and safety. UK - Part of the Merlin family who operate predominantly in the South-West, the 500-capacity Regal Theatre in Redruth occupies a 1930s art deco building, doubling between cinema and live events.

Local contractors, TruCru, were brought in recently to overhaul the theatre PA, replacing an archaic system with a Martin Audio FlexPoint solution. As a community facility, the new PA needed to demonstrate the versatility to cater for a wide variety of shows – ranging from am dram, touring tribute acts, operatic societies and nationally recognised stand-up comedians, with a high SPL. Most importantly, it needed to banish the pre-existing hotspotting that was evident in a challenging building with a balcony tier and an acoustically difficult ‘stepped’ ceiling above.

France - Val Thorens' renowned nightclub, Malaysia, has undergone a €2.5m transformation to become Malaysia 2.0, all thanks to a video installation overhaul featuring Smode’s real-time compositing and media server platform.

Perched at an altitude of 2,310m, The Malaysia club, established by Jean-Pierre Roux in 1985, is open seven days a week for the entire winter season. Dubbed the biggest dance floor in the Alps, it attracts around 700,000 people per season, hosting over 2,000 partygoers every night for live concerts and DJ sets. UK - Situated in the garden village of Port Sunlight on the Wirral, the historic Gladstone Theatre began life as an assembly and recreation hall with a platform stage for entertainment. The half-timbered and red-brick structure was opened by Prime Minister William Gladstone in 1891 and saw a proscenium stage added in the 1920s. Converted to a theatre in the 1950s, the Gladstone continues to stage a diverse range of commercial productions from an eclectic range of artists.

USA - At The Caverns, part of an 8,000ft underground cave passage located a little over 80 miles south of Nashville, designers like Justin Casey have to contend with a lack of level surfaces.

"Nothing there is level," Casey, owner of Helm Projects said of the venue. "That's the first challenge. We have done so many shows at this place, so we know it takes some time and thought to come up with a design that's right for it – but once you do, it's well worth it."

Casey and his team recently created a stunning design for electronica star LSDream's two-day Rave Cave event at the Cavern that played off the venue's intricately craggy features to create looks that flowed seamlessly with the captivating vibe of the performances on stage.

Canada - The University of Toronto’s Convocation Hall is a historic venue with a circular design. Imagined by prominent architects Darling and Pearson and completed in 1907, it has become a university landmark, hosting the annual convocation ceremonies and serving as the primary venue for academic and social functions due to its seating capacity of over 1,700.

Plagued by challenging acoustics, the hall’s reflective surfaces introduced significant complications, particularly for speech intelligibility. The previous sound system in Convocation Hall, an aging column array, was no longer effective – lacking the clarity needed for speech reinforcement in such a large, reverberant space. USA - Optic8 and Trilogy Studios have opened a virtual production facility in Dallas, Texas, powered by Brompton Technology’s Tessera SX40 LED processors and Absen’s high-performance LED screens.

This facility comprises three advanced production stages: a main cinematic volume designed for film and TV, a specialised car process stage, and a smaller stage tailored for commercials and music videos.

USA - Rolling Hills Covenant Church (RHCC) in California was founded in 1957 and dedicated its first church building in 1959. Following the sustained growth of its congregation during the 1960s and ‘70s, the Church constructed a larger worship centre which is now the main focus of its Rolling Hills Estates campus.

During the 1980s, RHCC expanded its emphasis on the arts as part of Christian worship, with a strong focus on the role of musical excellence in services. USA - The Dub Stage in Burbank, CA recently relocated and took the opportunity to fully outfit the facility with a Meyer Sound loudspeaker system. Marti D. Humphrey, CEO and chief re-recording mixer, invited various mixers and producers to The Dub Stage to audition the system. Humphrey said: “Everybody was absolutely blown away by the quality and the dynamics of the system.”

Belgium - Housed in a magnificent former bank building, the renowned Belga Queen restaurant in central Brussels is now under new management, and recently underwent a complete renovation.

An important part of the Belga Queen’s renovation was the provision of a new audio system. The new management was keen to match its investment in the refurbishment with an audio solution befitting of the venue’s high-end values, and engaged experienced AV specialists FOL Sound, Light and Vision to design and supply a system.

USA - The landmark Genesee Theatre in Waukegan, Illinois has installed a Meyer Sound Panther system, marking a major upgrade to its nearly century-old tradition of live entertainment.

Originally opened in 1927 as a grand movie palace, the 2,400-seat venue, owned by the city of Waukegan and managed by the nonprofit Friends of the Historic Genesee Theatre, shifted focus in recent years to present concert-heavy programming that called for a more robust sound system.

The theatre’s Meyer Sound M2D system, installed in 2004, was designed for musicals, speaking events, and films. But as the venue hosted more concerts, it bolstered the installed system with rental equipment.

USA - Located within walking distance of the Las Vegas Convention Center West Hall Expansion, a new resort is gaining popularity. The resort has over 3,600 rooms and suites, a 170,000 sq.ft casino, 550,000sq.ft of meeting space, 36 bars and restaurants, spa, 3,800-seat theatre, a nightclub, and 90,000sq.ft of retail space.

Early in the construction process, resort staff contacted Richard Reisig, owner of Technology West Group, to design and install the AV throughout the massive property.
