Anthony Smith
UK - The Institute of Sound and Communications Engineers (ISCE) has appointed Anthony Smith as its new president. It was announced at a recent AGM that the new president would be taking up the position vacated by Terry Baldwin, who is stepping down from the office he has held for the last four years.

Anthony was the founder of AVX Systems before going on to develop one of the first digital networking voice alarm systems(VxLAN) - which later became SigNET - and in 1999 developed the first generation SigTEL fire telephone system. He set up Current Thinking Ltd in 2001, developing new induction loop amplifiers, the VoCALL EVCS solution, and digital voice alarm solutions using high efficiency class D amplifiers that were used for all the audio systems at Dublin airport terminal 2. Anthony later took up a position as Business Development Manager (Voice Solutions) at Cooper Fire & Safety. More recently he was promoted to Head of Systems Engineering at Eaton Corporation, Cooper Safety Fire Systems.

Anthony has been heavily involved in Standards for many years and sits on the BSI FSH12/5 and BSI EPL100 committee. He has been a member of the ISCE since 1998 and a Council member for 11 years. He is passionate about ISCE's role as a learned society - educating and informing its members for the benefit of the sound industry. He said: "It's a great honour to be asked to take on this role with ISCE and I would like to thank Terry for his tireless work over the past four years and I hope to take the ISCE forward in a similar manner. My main focus in the coming years is going to be on certification skills training to members, to raise both their and the Institute's profile. "

The outgoing president replied by saying, "It has been a pleasure serving the Institute and overseeing its development through the evolutionary changes in our industry - and I know that this legacy is being passed into a safe pair of hands." Terry was recently made an Honorary Companion of the ISCE and his contributions to the Institute have been exceptional.

Meanwhile, Phil Price, UK director of sales at RCF Audio, has been appointed vice president and said "I am extremely pleased to be taking on the role of Vice President and supporting Anthony our new president. I will be looking closely at increasing the market awareness of the ISCE as a Learned society and supporting and growing our membership." Phil has been a member of ISCE since 1982, and more recently has served as a council member and marketing committee chairman.
