UK - Denon DJ says it was as delighted that Janette Slack walked away with a pair of its flagship DN-S3500 CD/MP3 players for winning the recent DJoust shoot-out, as the fast-rising electronic star was to bag them. Sponsored by Fruityloopy Promotions, the event attracted some of London's best unknown DJs, but Janette was already firmly on many people's radar.

The precociously-talented Eurasian remixer/producer already has eight years DJing experience, and with a wealth of worldwide club appearances - ranging from Montreal to Sydney and Croatia, she has still managed to build up a huge following in London through residencies at Platform 12 and Ali B's Air, as well as highly-acclaimed dance tracks such as Shake & Play (on the Ali B presents Air Breaks album) and Never Enough (on Re:Connect). On top of that she has been tipped as a Mixmag 'Future Hero'.

Janette only entered DJousts as an afterthought - but the decision quickly proved justified. "Aside from winning the Denon players I got to meet a number of promoters - and a lot more people have become aware of me because DJoust is being referenced a lot in the chat forums."

And this was a prime reason for Denon DJ's David Atkinson wanting to provide brand support. "One look at the initial heat line-ups made it fairly obvious that we'd made the right decision to back DJoust. The competition attracts exactly the right style and calibre of DJs - plus they are all associated with some of London's most interesting and entertaining club nights/promoters.

"The likes of Moochin!, Platform12, Ninja Cowboys, Sundazed and so on give the event some serious kudos - plus from an entirely commercial point of view we get to directly target the 16 DJs in the original heats. That's something that would take a whole lot more manpower to do separately. I can happily say we've sold players off the back of it."

Janette commented on the DN-S3500s: "It has a 15-second sampler and two available loop functions which is great if you want to do a long mix. The FX are also really good and it's great to have everything in one box. The buttons are good to press and whether cueing or playing there are different settings you can use. Also being able to nudge the playback slightly forward or backward to bring a mix back to the proper tempo is excellent," she remarks. "I'm really looking forward to spending a lot more time on these."

Atkinson summed up Janette's victory: "She was secretly our personal choice. She's hugely creative, has real presence behind the controls and is easily talented enough to know how to get the best out the DN-S3500s!"
