USA In the first field use of JBL Professional's new Vertec DP Series compact powered line arrays, audio-visual rental company Meeting Services provided technical production and AV requirements for the 26th Annual ESRI International User Conference at the San Diego Convention Center. Located in Redlands, CA, ESRI (Environmental Systems Research Institute) was founded in 1969 as a privately held consulting firm specialising in land use analysis projects. Now an industry leader in the field of digitally-imaged applications for many industries, the firm returns to the San Diego Convention Center on an annual basis for its ESRI International User Conference.

This year's event featured the first USA deployment of the new compact powered Vertec DP Series systems by the rental firm. Systems used for the general assembly conference, opening and closing sessions included VT4887ADP-AN loudspeakers and VT4881ADP-AN subwoofers. "When the client is a technology-based organisation, and the audience comprises savvy, working professionals, the bar for audio quality is raised significantly," noted Ken Freeman, technical sales manager for Meeting Services. "JBL's new compact Vertec DP Series systems gave us a significant edge here."

A centre array of four compact VT4887ADP speakers with optional DPAN networked input modules was suspended in line with the centre axis of the room's seating area, to handle primary vocal reinforcement duties. A wireless link to an ethernet network switch positioned at the overhead speaker truss effected remote control and monitoring capabilities using Harman Professional's System Architect software via the HiQnet system. Additional supporting VT4888 midsize arrays supported music playback.

"Being able to position this much high-fidelity horsepower in a very compact array package has significant benefits," Freeman said. "Show planners want the sound system to just disappear; while the tech guys are seeking consistent high-resolution audio for every seat in the house. The JBL VT4887ADP compact powered array elements let us reach both goals quite well in this application."

In addition to Meeting Services' deployment of the compact Vertec powered system models, the ESRI Conference featured the first deployment at a corporate presentation event of JBL's new VP (Venue Performance) Series. VP7212/95DP two-way systems were used as utility fill speakers to cover forward seating areas.

"High-technology professionals require exceptional results from both audio and video technologies," confirmed David Scheirman, Vice President, Tour Sound for JBL Professional. "Forward-thinking rental companies like Meeting Services, offering integrated solutions to meet their client needs, will find JBL's new compact powered Vertec DP Series system products to be useful tools in their rental business inventory."
