The Freestyle Stage is an area the organisers created to allow dancers visiting the show, to show off their dance skills to a crowd. The brief from organisers was to create an area that allowed maximum flexibility with lighting and sound, as there are no rehearsals or even any idea of the genre that will be performed. The performers just show up with an iPod or CD with their chosen track and take to the stage.
Kave supplied a flexible lighting rig consisting of Martin Mac 600s, Mac 2000 Profiles and the new Mac 575 Kryptons for lighting the stage, Chroma Q Colour Blocks as truss toners, Le Maitre MVS hazers, and 2 Robe Digispot 7000 DTs for graphics projection on the dance floor. The whole rig was programmed on a Chamsys MagicQ PC wing and Capture by freelance LD Simon Horn.
For sound Kave flew a d&b system consisting of Q7s and Q-subs, D12 amplifiers and a Yamaha LS9 16ch which was controlled from their stand, directly opposite the Freestyle Stage.
Kave's stand also played host to more Martin Mac 250 Entours, Mac 250 Washes, SmartMacs and JTE Pixelline 1044s programmed using Lightfactory.
The stage itself was built using Kave's Alistage with a JC & Joel Joelmat white dance floor.
Kave's project manager Dave Singleton says: "Move It is a fantastic exhibition, growing rapidly in size every year. I designed the rig with the intention of creating a big impact. The Freestyle Stage sat right in the middle of all the exhibitors and needed a certain amount of eye candy to attract the dancers to sign up for a slot to perform. By incorporating our Martin heads into the design I was confident we would have a visually stimulating design that could easily battle against the intense sunlight, which dominates Olympia. It was the first time I used the Mac 575 Kryptons and Kave's first outing for the fixtures. All I can say is wow! The optics are something I'd expect to see in a product double the price of the 575 Krypton."
All the products used at Move It are available from KAVE's rapidly expanding hire stock. KAVE are expanding at such a rate, that from Monday 16th March they will have moved larger premises: Units 1 & 2, 55 Victoria Road, Burgess Hill,RH15 9LH (Tel: 01444 245500)
