The Rock Cathedral in Lagos
Nigeria - The Rock Cathedral is a multipurpose facility that houses the headquarters of The Rock Foundation and the House on the Rock in Lagos, Nigeria.

The building has a total floor area of 32,000 m2, (the largest footprint for a single building in Lagos State) and includes facilities for worship, education, healthcare, community development and social rehabilitation to name a few and has a total capacity of 14,000 people.

House on the Rock were seeking to cooperate with a European company to help implement new audio and visual systems as well as acoustic treatment in the venue. Africa has a passion for the art of music and sound and having screened many possibilities they found that Audigys - KV2 Audio's Greek distributors - shared the same ideals.

The main concern was to create a sound system that would be powerful, accurate, flexible and easy to operate whilst being able to handle the wide range of application required.

The second key element of a good system is the choice of loudspeakers and their placement in the building. In contrast to current fashion Audigys opted against installing a line array, choosing instead the True Point Source approach of KV2 Audio's VHD (Very High Definition) System.

Happily KV2, Audigys and House on the Rock all agree that the principle of a good installation is that "the best sonic performance comes from the physics of good design and the right application" with "acoustic treatment being the road and the sound system being the vehicle."

The main Front of House system comprised of a stereo hang of just two VHD 2.0 and one ES 1.0 per side with a centre cluster of one VHD 2.0 and one VHD 1.0. A further three VHD 1.0 wide dispersion cabinets were used to cover the two-tiered balcony whilst bass frequencies were handled by four VHD 2.15, eight VHD 4.18 and four VHD 2.21.

KV2's ES System handled side-fill duties and a complete ESM stage monitoring system ensured that the musicians and choir enjoyed the same high quality output as the congregation. To ensure consistency of performance eight active EX 10 enclosures were used under the balcony.

The main foyer features eight EX 10 full range units whilst the separate prayer chapel now utilises a further ES System.

Audigys' chief installation engineer G. Theodoropoulos commented, "KV2 were our inspiration and supporter in this project. Our synergy and synchronicity together achieved spectacular results. Not a single Sunday that goes by without someone commenting on the quality of the sound."
