L-Acoustics has introduced the Soundvision Venue Database, which will allow Sound Engineers to download venue data from the L-Acoustics website and immediately incorporate their given speaker configuration in the pre-modeled venue. The database consists of Soundvision.SVS room data files that have been organized according to venue name, city and country. The goal is to be able to share information among sound designers and L-Acoustics touring sound engineers. This will save time and give more accurate, predictable results with a higher level of overall system performance than was previously possible.

System design can then be optimized according to the specific venue geometry, allowing the sound designer to fine tune system coverage, stereo imaging and SPL distribution throughout the audience. Physical installation parameters are also determined in advance, allowing for more efficient on site installation.

Paul Bauman, L-Acoustics director of technical support, commented: "Soundvision has quickly proven to be an excellent sound design tool: the software prediction and the real world result correlating extremely well. Rather than having to enter venue information, L-Acoustics sound engineers will be able to go directly to system design and optimization - which is the fun part! As the Soundvision Venue Database grows, this will become an important asset that ultimately provides added value for L-Acoustics users."

This venue database will be accessible to Soundvision software owners only. Soundvision is a 3D sound design program capable of operating in real time and is dedicated to the modelling of L-Acoustics products. Designed with an intuitive graphical user interface, the software allows for the calculation of sound pressure level (SPL) and coverage mapping for complex sound system or venue configurations. Room geometry and loudspeaker locations are defined in 3D and simplified operating modes allow the user to work in 2D to rapidly enter data. According to user preference, either horizontal (plan) or vertical (cut) views can be selected to enter room coordinates or to define loudspeaker placement/aiming. SPL plus coverage mapping are then based on direct sound calculations over the defined audience geometry where each loudspeaker model is calibrated based on a reference user preset.

Designed for Windows, Soundvision features a user-friendly interface with multiple toolboxes that allow for convenient entry of room and loudspeaker data while at the same time displaying coverage or mapping results along with 2D Cutview, Target and Cluster Cutview information. All toolboxes can be displayed simultaneously, providing the user with a complete control interface that allows for rapid system optimization.
