Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Wiegand, director of the Fraunhofer HHI, and Philipp Lawo, CEO Lawo
USA / Germany - Against the backdrop of the world's largest broadcast industry trade show, Lawo announced a partnership with the 3IT - Innovation Centre for Immersive Imaging Technologies of the Berlin-based Fraunhofer Heinrich-Hertz-Institute (Fraunhofer HHI). The agreement was signed on the Lawo booth at NAB in Las Vegas by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Wiegand, director of the Fraunhofer HHI, and Philipp Lawo, CEO Lawo.

3IT was founded five years ago by the Fraunhofer Heinrich-Hertz-Institute to combine the functions of an R&D facility, research laboratory and showroom. In cooperation with selected partners from the economic and scientific worlds, it tests new products and systems and presents them to various target audiences. Its activities focus on technologies including 3D, VR, UHD, HFR and HDR, as well as imaging and video applications in a medical and industrial context. The Centre aims to generate incentives for new synergies in product development, marketing and sales.

The R&D role is a logical opportunity for Lawo, enabling the German technology company to present its developments and innovative broadcast products - with their focus on future-proof and sustainable audio/video-over-IP solutions - to the industry, and to foster knowledge transfer

For Philipp Lawo, the company's CEO, the 3IT is the "ideal place to get in touch with industry participants, political institutions and R&D facilities, and to introduce the latest technologies within the field of video-over-IP". He adds, "Our products facilitate a safe transfer to fully IP-based production environments, and all are based on open standards like SMPTE 2022-6 and VSF TR-03/04. It is all the more important to present and discuss our approaches on the 3IT platform."

During an event to be hosted by Lawo at the 3IT, Lawo and participating technology partners will discuss their approaches and solutions for IP in broadcasting.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Wiegand, Director Fraunhofer HHI says, "With Lawo as a new partner, we are very pleased to welcome a German manufacturer that is active in the broadcast industry."
