Despite being one of the shortest A roads in the UK, the A3220 is also one of the busiest, forming a vital link between Clapham on the south and the A40 at White City. So the overbridge at the northeast corner of the Westfield site was the ideal location for further Lighthouse screens to complement the highly successful installation at the Holland Park roundabout, just to the south.
Two screens have been installed, one facing northbound and one facing southbound traffic, flown above the carriageways from the overbridge. Both comprise 10 x 4 panels of Lighthouse P16 i/o panels, each measuring 10.2 by 3m.
Control is by Lighthouse LIP-DX processors, with Scala media players supplied by Beyond Digital. Content is remotely controlled by Ocean over a 3G network.
As one of the first LED screen installations over a major road in the UK, Lighthouse had to build the screens within the mounting frames off site and then the whole assemblies were craned into position during overnight road closures.
"As it is such a busy route, we installed the screens overnight, so everything had to be prepared as much as possible in advance," says Tim Parry at Lighthouse's UK and northern Europe office.
"So, when Ocean was contracted to provide the screens over the A3220, we moved quickly to supply further displays which we are sure will be equally as successful, especially as there is a huge captive market of passing motorists and they are possibly the first ever LED advertising screens to be mounted over a dual carriageway in the UK."
