Read needed a colour changing, water-proof unit that was reliable, punchy and relatively small, as they would have to hang from a 'flambeau' post, in all weathers, for three months, he had seen the 150W City Color floods from Studio Due at PLASA this year and had been impressed. For the moving light cover from the roof, Read and Leitch tested out a Martin Professional Pal 1200, a Robe ColorSpot 1200 and a Giotto 400 from SGM.
Read eventually decided on four Giottos for the roof and 12 300W City Colors to light the ice. Read commented: "The 150W City Colors were effective; however, the beam was just too narrow. Bryan made some calls and a week later we had 12 brand new 300W City Colors to look at: they have two 150W lamps and give a much wider beam angle, still with CMY colour mixing - perfect."
