The college and Martin Professional are collaborating on developing a close partnership, working together to provide the best possible training to the next generation of lighting professionals. This new partnership has been made possible by lighting designer Patrick Woodroffe, who is a Fellow of the college and regularly visits the Lighting Design programme to run master classes and seminars.
Hansjorg Schmidt, programme director lighting design, says, "Patrick has been a fantastic supporter of the programme and the college. He knows our students well and some of them have been working for Patrick during the London Olympic and Paralympic Ceremonies. Working closely with Martin on providing training opportunities for our students is a logical next step for us, and I look forward to future collaborations."
The concert lighting project is an opportunity for the lighting design students to explore lighting for live music in a 'real world' context, working with a band on developing a rig and visual design for a series of performances in the college's Rose Theatre. The project is mentored by Ed Regan, a professional lighting designer working in live music and events. The project is also supported by Avolites, who supply the console.
