Based near Warminster, Wiltshire, Solid State Sound specializes in the sale of digital audio card recorders and their accessories, including suitable microphones and headphones. The company is owned and run by Rodney Wayman who has over 20 years' experience in pro-audio equipment sales, and some 10 years in broadcast production before that. "Having used and sold several million pounds worth of every conceivable audio device in my time, all the way from open reel to hard disk," says Wayman, "it is such a pleasure to be so closely involved with what the industry has been working all this time to achieve - broadcast quality sound acquisition on a simple little card."
Wayman's close interest and commitment to solid state recording goes back five years to when he met Maycom's CEO, Dave Groeneveld, in Holland. "We approached Rodney at a time when we were still developing our successful HandHeld recorder," says Groenveld. "He was such a great help and inspiration to us - his enthusiasm for the project was amazing - and many of his ideas are in that product, making it the success it is today. With 4000 units sold so far, we truly value the close working relationship we have with him."
The Maycom HandHeld has recently been upgraded to the HandHeld II and is used by virtually all the national broadcasters in Europe, as well as many local independent stations here and abroad.
