MediaCorp hosted the MeRadio Rocks The Marina!project - a celebratory concert where music and friendship all came together. With a capacity of roughly 5,000 people, the Promontory was rocking. The sound reinforcement featured loudspeakers from the Aero Series 2, Avant, and Road catalogs of D.A.S. Audio.
Singapore-based Showmakers (S) Pte, with over 15 years of event production experience and owners of a DAS Audio Aero 12A system, was contracted to provide sound services for the production.
The D.A.S. Audio sound system deployed for the concert was large, as Juan Luis Garcia, D.A.S. Audio Asia's managing director described, "We have an Aero 50 system in Singapore that is frequently used for touring throughout the Asia Pacific region and we certainly couldn't leave Singapore, our home market, short-handed, so we worked together with our local partner Showmakers, to assemble a system well suited for this event."
The system Garcia referred to included 16 D.A.S. Audio Aero 50 three-way, large format line array elements- flown eight enclosures per side for the left-right house mains. For low frequency support, these clusters were augmented by 16 LX-218CA powered, high performance subwoofers that were ground stacked in a left-right side-fill configuration with eight enclosures per side.
To provide side-fill coverage for the artists onstage as well as coverage for those audience members immediately in front of the stage area, three clusters - each containing four Aero 12A powered, two-way, mid-high line array elements - were deployed. The left-right side-fills were placed at the far left and right sides of the stage while the centre hang provided front-fill.
The on-stage monitor setup was equally impressive. This portion of the sound reinforcement system included eight D.A.S. Road 15A powered 15-inch, two-way stage monitors and another four Road 12A 12-inch, active two-way stage monitors. A D.A.S. Audio Avant 118A powered horn-bass subwoofer was used for drum-fill.
While most of the loudspeaker systems were self-powered, the large format Aero 50's were driven by a contingent of Lab Gruppen's flagship FP 10000Q 4-channel power amps. For amplifier monitoring and control, a Lab Gruppen NLB 60E NomadLink Bridge and Network Controller was placed into service while D.A.S. Audio's DSP-4080 4-input / 8-output DSP-based audio processor handled loudspeaker management chores.
Francis Tay, Showmakers' project director, commented, "This concert included performances by Singapore's top local bands, including singer, songwriter Don Richmond, Matthew & The Mandarins, Heritage, Douglas Oliveiro, and Jack & Rai, plus many more. The system that we, in conjunction with D.A.S. Audio, assembled really showed its versatility with all the different acts and their wide variety of musical styles."
