Three entrepreneurs from Bonn took over Harmonie in 1994, and in 2000, at the request of several musicians and sound technicians, Josef Schnorbus, co-owner and technical director of the venue, decided to replace its aged sound system, and compared several manufacturers' systems before settling on Meyer Sound's UltraSeries loudspeakers.
The Meyer Sound system initially acquired for the L-shaped live club in 2001 comprised two UPA-1P and three UPM-1P loudspeakers, a UMS-1P and two USW-1P subwoofers. The new system made a significant improvement on the sound quality and greatly reduced the logistical requirements of changing out shows in the venue. Artists, promoters, organizers at Harmonie enjoy a stress-free live experience during a show, and appreciate the reduced sound check time that lasts no longer than 15 minutes on most days, as most engineers find they need little or no equalisation once they have heard the system.
With the dramatic improvements appreciated by staff, visiting artists, and audiences alike, Harmonie decided to continue to upgrade their system with Meyer Sound equipment. In 2004, a pair of UPA-2P loudspeakers was added, along with 700-HP subwoofers hidden under the stage and four UPJ-1P VariO loudspeakers serving as delay lines in front of the bar. The complete system now includes a total of 22 Meyer Sound self-powered loudspeakers, controlled by a Galileo loudspeaker management system.
After a successful 08/09 winter season, Schnorbus says, "When we started with Harmonie in 1994, sound was often an issue and we spent a lot of time repairing and tweaking the system, and discussing the sound with technicians and promoters. When we began to use Meyer Sound equipment, it was a huge investment for us but it pays off daily. We simply do not need to think about sound anymore. It just works."
