Sponsored by Classic fm, Future Publishing, Sound on Sound Magazine and MB Media, the event covered all areas of the industry with awards for classical, contemporary and high tech instruments, and music publishing. There were also awards for outstanding retailers and suppliers and special awards for Stephen Richards (for Outstanding Contribution to Trade Associations) and Michael Doughty (for Lifetime Achievement).
Among the highlights was a speech by Feargal Sharkey (Chair - Live Music Forum), during which he continued the theme of his speech at the PLASA Awards in celebrating the vibrancy of the British music scene. Reminding guests of the issues threatening this scene, he implored the industry to continue supporting the development of music at a grass roots level.
Of the 40 awards, seven were given for classical instruments and 22 for contemporary music categories, with the large number dedicated to the growing high tech instrument marketplace.
Among other highlights were the awards recognising contributions to the industry of particular individuals and organisations.
A special award was given to Stephen Richards for his outstanding contribution to both the Music Industries Association and the Music Publishers Association.
Michael Doughty, Managing Director of Stentor Music, won the Lifetime Achievement award, recognising his support for the work of Music for Youth, the national charity that provides educational and performance opportunities to young musicians.
Stephen Navin from the DCMS commented: "The evening revealed again what a diverse and exciting business we are in."
