The show will premiere in Bristol in October before moving to the Prince Edward Theatre in London in December. Harrison is using the DLCs to light a cyclorama and other flown cloths that form part of Bob Crowley's scenic design. Harrison is very familiar with the DLC's qualities: over 140 units are already used in his design for Mamma Mia on productions around the world. The units for Mary Poppins will be supplied by Stage Electrics in Bristol.
In Plymouth, lighting designer Jenny Kagan has specified five Pitching Digital Light Curtains for Cameron Mackintosh's new British tour of Miss Saigon. This is an all-new production of the long-running musical, able to move quickly and fit into theatres too small to house the traditional version of the show - the production for which the Digital Light Curtain was invented. The recent British tour of that production, designed by David Hersey and using 30 Digital Light Curtains, has now been shipped to Japan, where it will soon open at the Imperial Theatre in Tokyo. Both productions of the show are being supplied by White Light in London.
A motorized batten of six- or eight- low voltage PAR56 lamps complete with integrated 20-colour scroller and optional Pitching yoke, DHA's Digital Light Curtain gives an intense sheet or curtain of light which can be precisely positioned on stage. The DLC has been used on some of the biggest shows in theatre and rock-and-roll, including, currently, Les Misérables, Miss Saigon and Mamma Mia around the world, Anything Goes in London, Oliver! on tour in the USA and at the Royal National Theatre in London, the Esplanade in Singapore and the Bolshoi in Moscow.
